The line between sweet and savory needn't be severe - think pineapple with ham, or chocolate covered pretzles. A little sweetness can give you new perspective on familiar ingredients (and in life, aaawwww). For instance, you've probably had a grilled cheese with tomato, but how about a grilled cheese with sliced pear? It's good. Trust us.
Our thoughts about sweet and savory this week come in the form of broccoli and apples together with some raisins and onion - adding some sunflower seeds might be nice, or even use these ingredients in your next tuna salad mix instead of the usual celery thing!
Ingredients:
About two cups of broccoli (just the crowns, but if you like the stem, do it! Chop it up!)
An apple
1/4 cup raisins (or less if you are not a raisin-er, like me)
Tablespoon of chopped red onion
Tablespoon honey or maple syrup
Splash of cider vinegar (a few tablespoons)
Splash of olive oil (ditto)
Directions:
Chop up the broccoli, apple, and onion, then throw on the raisins, vinegar, oil, and honey/syrup. Yum yum eat it up! You can also do this recipe with red grapes cut in half if you like (and a little bit of a naughty version includes crumbling crispy bacon on top).
Peas on Earth, and Veg' out!
